SCY, SCM, LCM, and Open Water

SCY uses a 25 yd pool following U.S. Masters Swimming pool-measurement standards, while SCM uses a 25 m pool and LCM uses a 50 m pool conforming to World Aquatics facility rules. Course length changes real turns and push-offs, while open water adds sighting, waves, current, navigation, and drafting.

How do I calculate swim pace per 100 m?

Convert the total swim time to seconds, divide by the distance in meters, and multiply by 100. A 1,500 m swim completed in 30 minutes is 2:00 per 100 m.

How do I calculate swim pace per 100 yards?

Use the same formula with the distance in yards: total seconds divided by yards, multiplied by 100. Keep the unit consistent unless you intentionally want a metric-to-yard conversion.

How do I predict finish time from swim pace?

Multiply pace time by the swim distance divided by the pace distance. At 1:40 per 100 m, a 1,500 m swim projects to 25:00 at an even pace.

How do I calculate distance from pace and time?

Divide total swim time by pace time, then multiply by 100. Swimming for 20 minutes at 2:00 per 100 m produces a calculated distance of 1,000 m.

Are 100 m and 100 yd pace equivalent?

No. One hundred yards is 91.44 meters. Equivalent 100-yard pace is 100-meter pace multiplied by 0.9144; equivalent 100-meter pace is 100-yard pace divided by 0.9144.

Does pool length affect swimming pace?

Pool length affects the number of walls, turns, and push-offs in real swimming. This calculator uses pool course for lengths, turns, and wall-based splits but does not apply a performance adjustment between SCY, SCM, and LCM.

Does the calculator include rest time?

Use moving time to measure in-water pace. Include recovery only when you want the average for the complete interval set, including rest.

Can I use this for open-water or triathlon swimming?

Yes, as a mathematical starting point. Waves, current, sighting, drafting, wetsuit use, course accuracy, and the absence of wall push-offs can all change an actual open-water finish time.

What is a swim send-off?

A send-off is the fixed time between interval starts. Add planned rest to the swimming time: a 1:40 swim plus 20 seconds of rest gives a 2:00 send-off.

What is the difference between swim pace and CSS?

Swim pace describes speed over any swim. Critical Swim Speed (CSS) estimates a sustainable threshold pace from timed efforts, commonly 400 m and 200 m tests, and is used to set training zones.
